The Trip

After our tasty lunch at a restaurant on the boardwalk, we continued hiking around town.  It was very hot and we were drinking water like crazy just to stay hydrated.  By the end of the day I lost that battle, falling victim to the heat and 3 four-shot rum punches.

The photos below are what we saw.

This gal was examining every shell on the beach, but kept no
ne.  But, it was a fine show.

Out on the bay, there were tons of jet skis and tour boats.

Kathleen's sister, Dee, talks with a new friend on the beach.

After lunch, the beaches started to get crowded.

Jessica goes for a swim at the beach.

There were many areas on the beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas for rent.

We were going to head over to Orient Beach, so we hiked back to the ship to meet our bus.  Our ship, although big, is totally wimpy compared to the other vessels in port.

There was a very cool dolphin statue next to the cruise ship terminal.

The sign says it all.

Across the harbor was the commercial dock and this container ship was unloading cargo.

We met up with our bus and headed out for Orient Beach.  There were some very nice places on the surrounding hills.

This is one of the main highways and all the streets are narrow.

As we crested the hill, we got a view of the eastern portion of St. Maartin and could see one of the other islands in the distance.

There were some nice ocean view homes up the hill from Orient Beach.

At the south end of the beach is Club Orient, a resort where we have stayed in the past.

When we got to Orient Beach, we got appropriately attired and went to Club Orient and had a couple of cocktails.  They tasted great and were highly effective.  We managed to make it back to the bus on time and returned to the ship for a mediocre dinner.  The sun, liquor and lack of water took its toll on us so we called it an early night.
