The Trip

We had something special planned.  The agenda was to ski over to the Italian side of the alps, ski down, then reverse it.  The runs on the Italian side were, in my opinion, better because they were much longer, well maintained and the snow was in good shape.

The Photos

The shots below are reduced from the output size of the digital camera to 700 pixels wide.

Blazingly clear.  The Matterhorn as seen from town.

Looking toward an intermediate lift station.

The glacier run from the Swiss side.

Gondola station, Italian side.  Tunnel goes through the hill.

The back side of the Matterhorn.

Gondola landing station cut into upper mountain and ice glacier .

Upper lift house on far hill, glacier to the right.

Lift house, warming huts and radio towers.

Italian lift house.

The back side of the Matterhorn.

Now this is a shot!!  Chalet on Italian side of the slope with Matterhorn as backdrop.

Lois, Bob and Kathleen with Matterhorn in the background.

Amazingly clear day, backside of the Matterhorn.

A lift house and warming hut on the Swiss side.  Zermatt is in the valley below.

One of the gondola cars.  Probably holds 100 passengers.

The village of Zermatt is in the valley .

On the ridge line above, the telescopes on the Gornergrat.

It was an another awesome day of skiing.  We went out for dinner, and it was good although I don't recall where we ate.
